Sorry again for another lack of updates…… mostly post-graduation laziness on my part :D

So the other day I went cycling with a friend to Kangaroo Point to take photos with the idea of trying weird stuff with Photoshop once we got home.  Funny thing is, it was the simpler ideas, not necessarily easier, but still not complicated ideas that turned out the best.  Just with that and the fact I only have one lens to play with most of the time, I learnt that it really helps to make make more from less because you'll get to push things and produce something really great.  I never expected the photo above to look the way it does but by treating it as a challenge, it became so much more.  I guess it's just another reminder from the saying, keep it simple stupid.

Perspectives can change alot of things.
The way we view things,
the way we see and understand things
they change with the slightest difference in angle.

"It really looks like I'm controlling that car!!"
no, not really.

Sorry for the lack of posts guys, Dan's currently in Melbourne and can't really blog so it'll just be me every so often.  That and just general laziness after graduation - it's a strange feeling having nothing to do and being so bored…

So the other day I had lunch with all my family at Southbank and I brought along the trusty D90.  I was just taking photos for fun and the silly faces that come with having so many cousins younger than you and I managed to get a photo like the one above.  One of my cousins was running around and jumped off the ledge onto the river bank.  I guess it was a momentary shot that was just there at the right time.

A child.  A child is innocent, it knows no more than what it sees, knows no more than what it feels.
Their thoughts are pure and innocent, only ever influenced by their immediate experience.
In it's eyes, there's a sense of curiosity, nonchalance and emptiness that's only ever seen from a child.
As it grows so does the expressions seen through its eyes.
 It changes irreversibly and irrecoverably.
It influences who they are, shaping the world around them.

Graduation marks the point of change, in many different aspects.
It marks the end of school days,
It marks the start of uni days,
It marks the end of friendships,
It marks the start of new ones.

Memories are made, memories are forgotten, but school spirits will never die for some.
Many celebrate, and some weep, but it's important to realise the importance and significance of graduation and what it means to each of us.

Congratulations to all valedictorians,
congratulations to all graduates,
congratulations to all parents for their efforts,
and thank you everyone for your memories.

Just a small experiment using a digital simulation on a monitor and long exposure.
I wasn't expecting much from it but it looks interesting and the low DPI of my screen adds to it in a way.
The way light refracts both digitally within the simulation and then out of the screen progressively into the camera sensor itself reminds me of how the difference between digital and analogue is getting smaller and smaller each year.  Though I wonder how much longer until the line between the two becomes blurred.

Apparently, if you forcibly smile, you'll feel happier.
Does this mean, we can see the world in different shades of colour to fit our moods?

More often than not, things seem black and white.
Things go wrong, plans don't work out and the list goes on.

Try to change the color, the palette of your world. No more black and whites (except for upcoming photos) and paint the world to the colour you want.

We all have a history we can trace ourselves back to.
Somewhere where we can find our beginnings, be it big or small.
Although when we grow older we change as a person and grow distant from those initial footsteps,
it's always important not to forget who you are as a person and what you do.
The moment you lose that is the moment you cease being yourself.
So never forget your history and what's behind it, it's who you are and it's what shapes you.

Love comes to us as a surprise. We don't plan it, we can't predict it.
That is why it's called 'falling in love'. It's not upto us to be in love.

Can anyone define love? It's bloody hard, I can tell you that.
It also can make and break people,
making people happy, content, secure, disappointed, sad and heartbroken.
Hopefully, no one has to experience the latter three, but it's inevitable sometimes.

Find love, be happy, cherish it while you can.

In not too many weeks from now, it'll be graduation for me and many of my friends.  It's been twelve years since starting school and it'll finally be over.
Strangely enough, when I think of graduation, I think of the Japanese drama 'Hana Kimi'.  It's a bit weird but it was a drama which I really liked and always had a reference to cherry blossoms which looked so nice and delicate.
Since watching it, it's a strong reminder of things to come both good and bad.

I've recently come across a poem named 'The Road Not Taken' by Robert Frost.
It tells the tale of two roads, seemingly equally fair but with obvious separate futures.

As a senior student, this is where I stand. At a crossroad.
Sure, countless people have stood where I am now, but it is never easy to choose a pathway which will ultimately determine my future.

To the fellow seniors, do not be discouraged by the burden of choices,
but make sure you know what you want, and follow the path you want.

Good luck to all

Just a short post.

Final exams are coming up soon for me - stress is high and time is short.
Even though this is the case, I think the best thing I can do apart from studying and practicing is to find balance.
Balance is something that's crucial for keeping a level head, for keeping calm in the most high stakes of situations, which for me at the moment is those ten exams waiting for me.
So rather than just studying constantly, it's good to find a balance between study and play even now to get you in the best state of mind.

We all need colour in our lives, whether they come as friends
or events that sweep our feet off the ground.
Sometimes life can seem black and white, but try adding vibrance to it,
live it up once in a while.

I've never seen snow in my life.
I've been told it's white fluffy and soft, but hurts a lot if you're hit by a snowball.
I've been told it looks amazing, that the starkness of seeing everything coated to a pure white is amazing.
I've been told snowboarding down a hill is exhilarating.
Hopefully one time I'll get to see it and roll around in the snow without a care in the world.

P.S.  This isn't snow, it's just clouds :D

What goes around comes around.
It's easy to do wrong by other people, but its good to remember that it might come back to you and hurt you in some way.
Be friendly, stay nice and gain trust for all your friends

On our planet, there's about seven billion people living with us right now and that's only going to get bigger for a while.  It's interesting to see how many people can fit on the Earth right now but at the same time it's saddening to know how many of them live in poverty.  If you have an education, a home, electricity, clean water, food and access to medical services; then you're one of the richest people in the world.  If you can see this through the internet, then you're even richer than a huge percentage of people with such privileges.   Thinking about this, you slowly realize how lucky we are out of the billions of people living amongst us.  Yeah, we take things for granted all the time - first world problems, but it's knowing this stark fact that changes everything.

We live in a small world,
where nothing is too big or too hard to do.
We stay connected by many things,
letters, internet, mail, postcards.
But do we really connect to those we need to?

As things become smaller, it's the smaller things that really start to matter.
Enjoy the little things, and perhaps you can start to enjoy the world.

Within everything we see, we can distinguish a form or a shape in the image of another object.  It's this familiarity with our own experiences in relation to the present  that makes so many things nostalgic to us and feel so surreal.  To me, it's creativity at its finest when we move an idea or a concept from one context to another.

We all need good sunsets once in a while to wind down from busy weeks.
With only 5 weeks left of highschool,
there won't be many chances for me to capture sunsets or sunrises.

Enjoy this sunrise, taken at the Gold Coast Jetty, and relax a little. It's Sunday.

We're often told that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.  That every challenge starts somewhere and that it's okay that we start from painful, but humble beginnings.  I'd like to think that over time, those single steps I take to reach a goal, inconsequential as they be individually, would lead up to something great.  Journeys like that are long and hard, requiring plenty of perseverance and commitment, but they pay off so much in the end.  So even if it's getting hard and you can't see the end just quite yet, keep moving forward and life'll have its way of rewarding you.
